Fresh-baked treats sans the trans fat

From freezer to oven with no mess (or work!),
these healthy premade doughs fill the kitchen
with amazing aromas and you with sweetness.
We love the unbeatable smell of just-out-of-the-oven sweets. So it comes as no surprise that scientists have proved what every woman knows: The smell of baking treats measurably improves mood. But there are days (lots of them) when our shortage of time means that only heat-and-serve goodies will do. The hitch: Most popular brands contain trans fats and hydrogenated oils that are proven to clog arteries, as well as pack on belly fat. And while experts say we shouldn’t consume over 2 grams daily, manufacturers can claim their products are “trans-fat free” when they really have .5 grams. In order to avoid a fresh-baked buzz kill, we found easy treats that leave out the trans fat, so you can sniff and enjoy guilt-free.
CHOCOLATE-CHIP COOKIE FIENDS,
NIBBLE THESE
Step off, Cookie Monster — no one gets between us and our chocolate-chip fix. And thanks to refrigerated tubes of dough, it’s easy to find excuses to bake up a batch (friends stopping by, a gallon of milk to finish up, a Tuesday…). But when we discovered that our go-to brand has 2 grams of trans fat per two-cookie serving, we sought a healthier way to feed our cookie habit: FatBoy Outrageous Chocolate Chunk Cookie Dough ($16 for 27 cookies, at FatBoyCookieCompany.com and Whole Foods Market stores). But don’t let the name scare you — despite their buttery texture and payload of gooey chips, these larger-than-average cookies have no trans fat and are just 150 calories a pop. We’re preheating the oven now — no excuses necessary.
